Every time I listen to Bela Fleck & The Flecktones I hear something new in the music. Geniuses...
Happy Holidays to all! Whatever your race, creed, etc. enjoy peace, hope, and family.
Mobile phone is on the blink. Decision time - iPhone or Blackberry Bold?

Saw "Happy-Go-Lucky" yesterday. Decent movie, but I couldn't help being more annoyed than entertained by Poppy.
Spending a snowy morning cleaning up a massive list of Gmail filters. How's that for boring? :-/

Saturday, December 20, 2008

Even Frost/Nixon is only playing at one theater in the area (AMC Boston Common). Jeez!
Just discovered Google Alerts. Great research tool.
Disappointed that The Wrestler isn't playing anywhere in the area.

Really hope that they can work out better licensing agreements to halt (or at least slow) the revolving-door setup they have now.
Just noticed that a ridiculous number of films in my Netflix Watch Now will expire at the end of this year.
OK... not sure what to think of this - http://ping.fm/iups1 Actually, not sure if I should think about it at all.

Sunday, December 14, 2008

Let the Right One In - yes, there is a vampire and bloodsucking but this is a (good) movie about friendship. Friendship with a vampire. :-)
Doubt - four amazig actors give their best to an already excellent play. This is a must see.
Milk - great film about a great man. Speaking of great... Sean Penn. He keeps raising the bar.
Doing another personal film festival today. Three movies - Milk, Doubt, and Let The Right One In.

Saturday, December 13, 2008

Slumdog Millionaire- Stop what you're doing & see this movie. Danny Boyle's top achievement. Runs the gamut from heartbreaking to joyful.
Synecdoche, New York- interesting- I want to see again. Definitely fodder for many a genius vs. self-indulgent crap discussion.
Did a double feature today - "Synecdoche, New York" and "Slumdog Millionaire".
Curious about the origins of the phrase "package store" in the Boston area. Never heard that to describe a place to get booze before.

Wednesday, December 10, 2008

There - something just worked! Today is finally turning around! :-)
Lately, I think I'm always the statue. It's more a question of how many pigeons are flying around.
Some days you are the pigeon, some days you are the statue...

Permessa has received a lot of interest in the beta. The more the merrier - more input means a better product in the end.

Exiting extreme low brow territory, saw Transsiberian. A surprisingly good thriller. It starts out slow but picks up and doesn't let go.
Didn't realize it was from Troma. Projectile vomiting, explosive diarrhea, and political incorrectness to offend all.
Also watched Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead. Yes, you read that right.
Watched Battle Royale today. Expected something Lord of the Flies-eqsue. Was disappointed.

Thursday, December 4, 2008

Loving Advantageous mp3 http://ping.fm/XNT90
Disappointed with the series finale of The Shield. For a show with smart writing for seven seasons, they used every cop show cliche in the book for the finale.

Sunday, November 30, 2008

Just tried a Starbucks Espresso Truffle coffee drink. Coincidentally, I think I just developed diabetes...!
Last day in PA; typically crazy running around day.

Saturday, November 29, 2008

As good as they are, each year they raise the bar ever higher!
This year is TSO's 10th anniversary tour. I was at their first live show - at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby, PA.
TSO at the Wachovia Center was - not surprisingly - excellent!
Heading to the Wachovia Center to see Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

Just saw a few minutes of WALL-E on Blu-Ray. I wasn't a big believer in Blu-Ray... until now. WOW!

Tuesday, November 25, 2008

Just watched Get Smart (the new movie version) - fun, entertaining, but forgettable. Don't go out of your way.

Sunday, November 16, 2008

Star Wars Clone Wars (DVD) - don't bother. The franchise is long overdue for being laid to rest.
Rachel Getting Married - very good movie. Anne Hathaway is excellent. In fact, everyone is.

Saturday, November 15, 2008

Arquebus is very interesting - not like any barleywine I've ever tried. VERY mellow. No wonder it won the GABF Gold.
Now on to CBC's Arquebus - an interesting take on barleywine.
CBC = Cambridge Brewing Company in Cambridge, MA.
CBC Great Pumpkin Ale is tasty too. They don't try too hard with the spices - that's a good thing!
Taking a break between movies at CBC with a Weekapaug Gruit. Always interesting "beer" - minus the hops.
Zack and Miri - flithy, hilarious, and touching. Probably the most mature film Kevin Smith has done.

Managed to prune my list of subscribed feeds down to 810. Better than 1500, but still too much to keep up on!
I want the 17" screen but the new design and specs. Grrrr!
I didn't notice until just now - the 17" MacBook Pro didn't get updated last week. What's that about?

Monday, October 20, 2008

Busy week ahead, then another week on the road...
Saw an interesting/odd film yesterday - Stuck. Part horror movie, part indictment of the self-centered nature of our society. Recommended, but not for the faint of heart.
Managed to get a few projects booked over the next couple of weeks. Packing in revenue for the last weeks of the quarter/FY!

The TV in my hotel room is nicer than my TV at home. I wonder if it'll fit in the overhead...
Made it to DC. Next on the schedule - finding something to eat.

Sunday, October 12, 2008

Just about the only films that interest me now are "Religulous" and "Trouble The Water". Everything else is either wait for DVD or "just because" material.
Just watched a film called "Cashback" - very nice film about noticing the beauty in every second. Funny too!
It's been a huge dry spell for movies lately. Not much has come out in the past couple of months that makes we want to visit a theater.

Friday, October 10, 2008

Headed to Washington DC next week.

What confuses me is how such a data-centric phone can be launch on the carrier with the worst data network in the USA.
I have to admit - the T-Mobile G1 is pretty interesting...

Sunday, September 21, 2008

Another great percussive guitarist - Jim Green, a.k.a. The Wandering Endorphin. First heard him busking on Michigan Ave in Chicago. http://ping.fm/hudWW
Discovered Kaki King thanks to @boingboingtv. Percussive guitar is a really cool playing style.

Saturday, September 20, 2008

Why doesn't Amazon let me add Kindle books to my wish list? I've been sending samples to my Kindle instead. I now have a couple hundred samples!
Seriously considering Burn After Reading, but reviews so-so. Then again, mediocre Coens is better than most of what gets to the screen.
I am *way* behind on my movie watching. Luckily, this time of year is when the leftovers get released. Time to check the indies.

Friday, September 19, 2008

Too bad Genius doesn't work for movies or TV too. Maybe even podcasts.
Basically, iTunes 8 is one big advertisement/up-sell.
Call me Captain Obvious, but maybe Genius really only does anything special if the music is in the iTunes Store catalog? Hmm?
Genius also isn't very good about seeing what is in your library. I get lots of "you don't have..." for tracks I do have.
The Genius feature of iTunes 8 doesn't seem to do anything with indie or fringe artists. Not surprised...
Why does Google Chrome need to install a plugin into Firefox? Dudes... first, do no evil!

Any Quickr pros out there? Any trick to uninstalling Quickr 8.1 on Domino 8.0.1 on Windows 2003? I click Change/Remove and nothing happens!
Anybody know where the Domino Server 8.0.2 incremental update is? I can't find it available for download anywhere.

Apple Store, Boylston Street, Boston, MA http://ping.fm/wIIBe
If I still lived in IL, I could order this! http://ping.fm/Swzvf Curse MA and its laws.
Biggest discovery today was that I need to spend some serious time (on a nicer day) exploring the Back Bay. Cool area!
Checked out the new-ish Apple Store on Boylston St in Boston's Back Bay today. Nice store, but really just like any other Apple Store - only bigger.

Friday, September 12, 2008

Installed Google Gears on Windows Mobile to support My Location in search. It thinks I'm in NYC. I'm in Boston.
Despite my preference for Domino, getting deeper into MS Exchange and SharePoint. Market and investors pushing us that way.

PleaseDressMe.com drew me in for more than a half hour. And I hardly ever wear t-shirts. Now *THAT'S* a web site!
Just saw "Big Trouble In Little China" - it didn't age well for me. Kurt Russell was as good as I remember, though. :-)

One of these days (hopefully soon), I'm going to leave the office before 9 PM.
Just had Larb Kai at Lady Siam - Thai/Vietnamese place near my apt. SPICY!!! But that's a good thing!

Saturday, September 6, 2008

Lucky for me, cable networks never broadcast shows just once!
I don't watch a lot of TV, but I love "The Shield". Can't believe I missed the season premiere.
The best thing I can say about BlackBerry Connect for Windows Mobile? It uninstalls well.

Friday, September 5, 2008

MS WinMo 6.1 phone running BB Connect to talk to BES and sync email, calendar, contacts, tasks from Lotus Domino. Maybe I'm too cross-bred. :-/
Maybe RIM intentionally makes BB Connect lousy so you'll buy a BB handset! :-)
Email date/time stamps all wrong so sort is wrong; if msg has attachment, opening msg dumps me to home scrn.
Wow - BB Connect on my Q9h is *HORRIBLE*! Contact and calendar sync not working, email problems...
Just configured two Dell Mini 9s - 1GB RAM, 16GB SSD, BT 2.1, 1.3MP cam- all else equal. Ubuntu build is $15 *more* than Win XP Home! Huh?
Just loaded BB Connect on my MOTO Q9h (WinMo 6.1 Std). Definitely *NOT* impressed. May be moving back to Good Messaging sooner rather than later.
It's 2008, and Lotus Notes 8 doesn't recognize "download" in spell check. :-/

Thursday, September 4, 2008

I wonder what other subtle improvements to Google apps are present when using Google Chrome.
Just noticed that Google Chrome renders some things in Gmail differently than FF or IE. Very small, very subtle diffs.
Google Chrome is good, but living without my Del.icio.us Firefox extension is tough.
Wish there was a way to reorder, categorize (other than priority) and directly search my Amazon Wishlist. It's now 34 pages!
Google Chrome - just noticed that if I enter, say, "amazon The Godfather" in the OmniBox then I get an option to search Amazon directly. Nice.

Wednesday, September 3, 2008

Today's lunch was bad sushi. Today's dinner was bad Chinese. Makes me worry what I have to look forward to tomorrow... :-/
Interesting... clicking on an RSS feed in Google's Chrome doesn't subscribe to the feed in Google Reader - or even offer the option.

Tuesday, September 2, 2008

Google Chrome is pretty nice - simple and fast.
Dang - just noticed tons of cross-posting on Facebook from FriendFeed. Hopefully I cleaned that up.

Monday, September 1, 2008

Just ordered an arrangement from Edible Arrangements - kiwi, melon, strawberry, etc. I wish I was half as creative as those folks!
Google Chrome? Competition is good - it makes all the players work harder. Hopefully Google will bring something innovative to the table.
Wizards are helpful, but should give me an option to break out if I don't want help! In this case, "help" kept me from doing things right.
The "workaround" to make Gmail IMAP work with WinMo 6.1? Misspell gmail.com (or use a bogus) so WinMo won't be so helpful.
Anybody heading to the Office 2.0 Conference this week?
Hmm... WinMo 6.1 tries to be helpful and auto-config my Gmail account. However, I want IMAP - *not* POP3! Very helpful, indeed.

Sunday, August 31, 2008

That FF2 w/ Tab Mix Plus -> FF3 w/o TMP goofiness had me pulling my hair out. May I save your hair from similar trauma.
Firefox 3- Del user_pref("browser.sessionstore.enabled", false); from prefs.js if you used Tab Mix Plus w/ FF2. FF3 session restore now OK.
Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade on MOTO Q 9h is a success! Now to reload all apps & reset all settings. :-/
Cinema 1 at the Somerville Theater is a work of art! I love old theaters.
IMHO, Hamlet 2 would have been better if it didn't try for so many "cheap laughs". The intelligent comedy was best.
Hamlet 2 - funny, but no for the easily offended! Definitely see the South Park stamp on it.
Headed to Somerville Theater to see Hamlet 2.
Diesel Cafe in Davis Sq, Somerville, MA, serves coffee from Intelligentsia Coffee in Chicago! I like them already. :-)
That is all. Thank you for listening. My soap box is being put away for the moment.
You've built a viable infrastructure to solve the problem. Now use it!!!! Don't make the consumer work to watch your content!
Hulu could be a good option, if NBC used it to make their own content available! No excerpts - full content!
I don't support piracy, but legit options need to be made available! Otherwise, ppl will gravitate to the available options. This problem is solveable.
Law & Order SVU Seasons 8 and 9 - no DVD; no Netflix streaming; no iTunes; Amazon Unbox, but purchase only - no rental.
Also, site looks like it was designed at the birth of the Internet and hasn't been updated since.
Mass Pike FAST LANE web site - why no ability to list or download charges? Would be helpful for expense reports.
RTM = Remember The Milk, for those of you who don't use the best to-do manager on the web!
Google Tip gadget fails too, but I can survive without that one... I hope.
Just noticed that RTM, Ping.fm, BeTwittered, and Google Calendar iGoogle gadgets don't work in IE 8 B2.
Phone contacts, web bookmarks, and data backup complete. Next step - WinMo 6.1 upgrade. Pray for me.

Saturday, August 30, 2008

Keeping good thoughts for the people of New Orleans.
According to an old episode of Law & Order SVU, blogging = daily, almost hourly, visits to a web site. :-/

Friday, August 29, 2008

Sick and tired of self-righteous a-holes who say "don't take it personally!" as a way to excuse their bad behavior.
Best job in the world? Guy Fieri on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" on Food Network!
...Elegy, American Teen, and - yes - maybe even The Clone Wars.
Movies to see this weekend - Hamlet 2, Traitor, Forzen River, Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
Was planning to drive to Philly for the long weekend, but decided to veg at home instead.
I have to admit - Microsoft is doing good work on IE8. Firefox won't be going anywhere, but I'm not as IE-averse as I was.

Thursday, August 28, 2008

IE8 Automatic crash recovery - pretty nice feature. http://ping.fm/lTbUa
It's great to see more publishers embracing ebooks http://ping.fm/aSkVw

Wednesday, August 27, 2008

OK... Gmail's IMAP support is goofy. It's tolerable, but I don't like it.
Funny how people forget that Safari has had private browsing for *YEARS* while they're taking shots at IE8! http://ping.fm/vXPwF
Latest build of Digsby seems to have me back in business. Phew!
Just started checking out Skydeck http://skydeck.com/. This is pretty slick!
Crap! Digsby is dead for me right now. :-( I let it apply the latest update and now it won't even start. @digsby - any suggestions?
IBM Lotus really nailed it with Notes 8.0.2. Performance is *MUCH* better!
Just getting on a call with a BIG potential Domino client. Very positive outlook!

Tuesday, August 26, 2008

Outstanding. My WinMo phone just reset and wiped itself. I guess this makes my decision to upgrade to 6.1 easier.

Sunday, August 24, 2008

Just tried getting a file from Microsoft Live Mesh mobile. Wow! That site is S...L...O...W!
Going to be a long night of driving tonight.

Friday, August 22, 2008

Taking a break from the road and enjoying some dinner at Rein's Deli in Vernon, CT.
Why do movies sometimes disappear from Netflix's Watch Now service? Annoying!
Hmmm... Just noticed that the newest version of Digsby includes support for Lotus Sametime contacts. Now they need support for Lotus Sametime IM accts!

Thursday, August 21, 2008

Can I be an Uncle Bill even if I'm not related to the baby? If not, that won't prevent me from spoiling her! :-)
She is 8 lbs 6 oz of gorgeousness! :-D
Please welcome Olivia Grace Graver to the world! A beautiful baby girl!

Tuesday, August 19, 2008

Anybody know when BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 will be released? Will Domino R8 support be improved?
If/when I wipe my Q9h, I may try BlackBerry Connect instead of Good Mobile Messaging. Good is a hog!
"Upgrading" my Moto Q9h to WinMo 6.1 requires a complete wipe of the device. Lovely. Not exactly an "upgrade".
It's sad that I'm excited to find gas for the super low price of 3.699.
